You're right but as what you mentioned is a rack and not a box, I compared it to my rack...
Instead of the "massive box", as you say and that I have since 25 years, you can buy a smaller box, but all in cases it will protect what you put in it better than a simple rack.
Something like that for example looks to me ok (70€)
So 30€+70€=100€ for the whole system instead of 350€ for a rack... Not so bad ! But the use is different too.
